There have been many movies starring some of the greatest basketball players to have ever played. Julius Erving, better known as Dr. J, starred in the Fish that Saved Pittsburgh, Wilt Chamberlain played opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in Conan the Destroyer, Ray Allen gave an underrated performance in Spike Lee’s He Got Game, Michael Jordan led the Toon Squad against the Monstars in Space Jam, and Shaq was Kazaam…okay, well maybe not all the movies were all that good; Shaq did star in Blue Chips though, alongside fellow Orlando Magic star Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway. The newest superstar to find his way to the big screen is Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant, who stars as himself in the originally named Thunderstruck; and from the looks of it he’s just going through the motions. I’m not trying to insinuate that the movie looks terrible, although it doesn’t really look all that good, but how hard is it for a basketball player to play a basketball player. Durant would have been better off starring in an animated film similar to Space Jam, because animation may have helped make the movie at least look fun.
